Soil Nailing
The basic concept of soil nailing is similar to ground anchor but soil nail is used to reinforce and strengthen the existing slope or excavation by installing closely spaced steel bars, called "nails". This process creates a reinforced section that is itself stable and able to retain the ground from slope failure. The nails are passive and develop their reinforcing action through nail ground interactions as the ground deforms both during and following construction. Usually, the soil nails significantly increase the apparent cohesion of the soil through their ability to carry tensile loads. In addition to the soil nails, a construction facing (typically known as shotcrete or gunite) is used as part of slope strengthening works. Depending on the design requirement, the shotcreting wall is reinforced with single or double layer of welded wire mesh (BRC reinforcement mesh).
